Identity Theft: a new twist?
A small US bank has been the victim of stores about its security. It's bizarre.
Dollar Bank, a small US bank (formed 1855, USD4 Milliard in assets, 53 branches) has been forced to deny stories circulating about its security: the bank says "when Dollar Bank learned that someone impersonating a Dollar Bank employee tried to access credit reports, Dollar Bank conducted an investigation. It has been determined that no Dollar Bank employee was involved and no Dollar Bank customer credit reports have been improperly accessed. The results of this investigation were promptly reported to the FBI."
The bank is unequivocal about the effect on accounts: "No information was stolen from Dollar Bank; No money was stolen from a depositor of Dollar Bank; No employee of Dollar Bank was involved."
Now the question arises: who issued the stories and why?
