UK loads criminals' DNA into database

Repeat offenders and recidivists are increasingly unlikely to escape detection as the UK's criminal DNA database is in place.

Based on the evidence that crime is most often committed by a repeat offender if not a recidivist, the UK has taken the first step towards its target of having a record of the DNA of the entire criminal population by 1994.

The first batch of entries, 13,000, is being loaded now and is expected to provide a match in up to 40% of crime scenes.
