wmlro.com: Pakistan arrests three for terrorist financing links
The spider's web that spreads out from Faisal Shahzad who allegedly has admitted trying to blow up a vehicle in New York's Times Square in May this year has many sections in Pakistan. Now authorities there say they have found some of those who help finance his activities.
Pakistan's intelligence-led operation carried out by police identified three men it is said are connected to the al-Qaeda related Tahreek-i-Taleban which is a proscribed organisation.
Shoaib Mughal, Shahid and Hambal Akhtar are being held in custody at a secret location after being arrested "several days ago."
They are being questioned with regard to facilitating and supporting Faisal Shahzad's activities.
He has, US authorities say, already admitted to travelling to Pakistan and receiving training from Taleban militants in the region bordering Afghanistan.
Faisal has been revealed as the second man in a video released by Hakimullah Mehsud, leader of the Tehrik-e-Taliban. In that video he pledged "war" as revenge for "alleged atrocities to Muslims."
Since the arrests, there have been a spate of bombings in Northern Pakistan - mainly targeting the police. Dozens of officers and civilians have been killed or injured in the attacks. Some have been claimed by the Taleban in Pakistan. However, none of the claims have specifically claimed they are in retaliation for the arrests.
