Banking: NAB's very public breakup with CommBank, ANZ and Westpac
We're not sure what it's all about but for some reason Australia's NAB is in the middle of a very public spat with its rivals CommBank, ANZ and Westpac. And it's gone very public and very viral in a matter of hours.
If anyone doubts the power of social media, just head on over to http://breakup.nab.com.au/2011/02/.
An announcement by NAB says "It's true. We've just broken up with CommBank, ANZ and Westpac and it's still a little raw. Honestly, we just grew apart and have nothing in common with them anymore.
So if you speak to any of them in the next couple of days try to be a bit gentle with them."
And there are several YouTube videos, one of which (the letter) explains that NAB doesn't want to be associated with the policies of the other banks and thinks they treat customers shabbily.
The others are both funny and brutal about ways the news was supposedly delivered to the other banks.
How long it is before a complaint is made about the ads remains to be seen.
Having watched all of them, it became a little bit embarrassing.
A clever joke gone too far, perhaps?
