ATM: State Bank of India to replace domestic ATM network software

The State Bank of India - government owned but not the central bank - has begun a nation-wide replacement of its ATM software using Opus Software Solutions.

Opus says that the deal is worth USD10 million and it will "replace the existing SBI platform."

By the time the roll-out is complete and all new services installed, the system will run 25,000 ATMs, 500,000 point-of-sale terminals and kiosks plus handle some 80 million debit cards.

But that's just the beginning says Opus: "These numbers are expected to double, including ATMs, by 2014, making this the largest installation in the world.

SBI is increasing its branch network: in the Chandigarh region alone it plans to increase its current number of branches from 850 to 1000 in the next year to 18 months.

The Opus deal will be delivered by its ElectraCard Services subsidiary which already powers several SBI services including its internet payment gateway, 3D secure identification, debit card management software and a fraud management product.
