The release today for public consultation of the draft Code of Professional Conduct is a significant step towards having the financial adviser regime in place, according to David Mayhew, New Zealand's Commissioner for Financial Advisers.

LOW Kwok Mun, Director of Supervision for Insurance at the Monetary Authority of Singapore told the industry yesterday that the present arrangements for commissions are open to abuse and encourage insurance salesmen to act in their own interests first. The remedy: to undertake a thorough review of the commission structure - with a view to reducing or eliminating front-loading.

The New Zealand Securities Commission is inviting "all interested persons" to "make submissions on the skills advisers will be required to have under a new law."
